UNDERSTANDING AN INVESTIGATOR

A good investigator can sometimes be the difference between a prosperous and a dismal outcome. Ask any successful trial attorney and more often than not, they will unofficially praise the work of their investigator. As an experienced professional, I will attempt to provide not only advice on how to select a qualified investigator, but also how to ensure that they are reliable. First and foremost, I strongly suggest that you not delegate this process to any subordinate or any individual who has little or no experience conducting research or dealing in government bureaucracy

What does it normally cost to hire a Qualified Investigator? It all depends on the type of case assignment, area of the country or world, and the firm accomplishing the work. The hourly rates can generally range $45 - $60 per hour.
Can a Qualified Investigator conduct surveillance on anyone and is it legal? Absolutely. Accomplishing surveillance is something we do all the time. There are really very few limitations except for placing cameras/recording devices inside of private homes or areas. People should understand this simple issue. If you do things in public, or which can be "viewed" by the public, it is generally something which a Private Investigator can use to develop information on your activities.
Would you recommend a "regular person" try to do a surveillance on their own? No. Surveillance is often dangerous and unpredictable. To be accomplished correctly requires training and experience. If knowing someone's activity is important, hire a professional.
Is there anything I can do to explore someone's background? Yes. If you live near them visit the local County courthouse and conduct a review of available records. This will include: criminal court, civil law suit involvement, property records, and more.

We have also included several useful web links in our Special Tips section and our Handbook provides just about anyone with guidance in accomplishing some investigative issues for themselves.

When should I consider requesting a background check from a Private Investigation firm? It has been our experience over the years that if the situation is important enough to affect your personal, business, or financial future, strong consideration should be given to a background check. This is especially important if you have a "gut" feeling something is wrong or the person is not always open regarding past activities or issues. In today's world we often don't trust our instincts enough. They are usually very accurate!
